Approaches to the extraction of oxygen from moon rocks are described. Theoretical and experimental work being done in the PLANET project to develop mission scenarios, identify useful extraterrestrial resources, develop processing concepts, design production facilities, and analyze economic aspects of extraterrestrial resource extraction is addressed. The prospects for the success of these efforts are considered.
