In solar active regions, flare eruptions are associated with various complex features, involved in gradual, continuous evolution in time. Among other signatures, it is frequently observed that local magnetic fluxes can disappear or emerge from below the photosphere. Under the assumption of infinite electrical conductivity, both processes produce neutral current sheets in the corona, which are generally considered to be a possible mechanism of preflare energy storage. For the case of flux emergence, the formation of current sheets was treated by Tur and Priest (1976) through two examples assuming different ambient fields, a bipolar field in one case and a constant field in the other. The present paper is a natural extension of their work, considering the case of current sheet formation due to flux submergence in terms of the same examples.
