It is shown that a solution of the equation of continuity for electrons based on production and loss alone leads to loss rates that are considerably higher than hitherto assumed. This new loss rate is so high that the turning point in the resulting electrondensity-time curve appears hours before noon as has been long observed at low latitudes. It is suggested that this result is significant because this pre-noon maximum is generally associated with either electromagnetic movement or plasma diffusion.
