This paper examines a newly discovered quantum analog of Lorentz scattering, induced by the 'magnetic' field of a cosmic local string, which is manifested as a scattering asymmetry. For small values of the incident-particle momentum (in the system of the string at rest), Lorentz scattering is manifested as a weak asymmetry in the cross section, with a peak in the region of classical scattering; this effect also occurs in the presence of an amplitude of the Aharonov-Bohm (1959) type. For large momenta of incident particles, a caustic appears in the classical scattering region. Possible physical manifestations of this type of scattering are investigated.
