Scientific paper
Recently released information observed by Phobos 2 is reviewed. Although the probe fell short of fulfilling its objectives, its observations have provided further insights and also posed many new questions on its mission to Mars. Some of the more pertinent notations include: inability of the spacecraft's solving the existence or lack of an intrinsic magnetic field on Mars, recording the signature of ozone for the first time, gamma-ray spectrometer scanning of the planet's surface, ISM data that indicates the possible presence of water, and the unachieved goal of making a thermal map of Mars with better resolution than that achieved by the Viking orbiters.
