For clarifying the final state of relativistic gravitional collapse, the behavior nonspherical perturbations in the neighborhood of the Schwarzschild surface was examined by analyzing the second-order nonlinear perturbations as well as the first-order linear ones. It was found that through the perturbations corresponding to incoming gravitational waves reflected by the potential barrier, the nonlinear effect becomes important, when the surface of the collapsing object approaches the Schwarzschild surface. This means that the conclusions about the final state derived in the linear approximation are questionable. It is concluded that however small the initial nonspherical perturbations are, full nonlinearity must be considered in order to analyze dynamical processes in the neighborhood of the final state.
