I give an overview of observations of relativistically broadened Kα lines with XMM-Newton. In addition to the canonical broad line source MCG-6-30-15, broad lines have now been seen in a variety of different active galaxies and also in Galactic sources. The interpretation of the line profiles implies that the physics of the accretion flow close to the supermassive black hole is more complicated than implied by canonical accretion disk models. In a number of sources, however, there is now also evidence for the absence of relativistic lines and in some cases the interpretation of the line is not unique, with the line profile being explainable by strong relativistic emission or by very strong absorption.
