The use of spherical-wave radio holography as the sole means to determine the height of ionospheric irregularities is examined for an irregularity model in the form of a plane with variable amplitude transmission. It is shown that the best way to determine the location of a scatterer is to analyze shape variations of the amplitude with the aid of additional information about phase variations.
