Data from the first observed outburst of the dwarf nova SDSS
J094002.56+274942.0 show cyclical variations increasing in amplitude
when the object fades. These variations are likely due to the
ellipsoidal shape of the red dwarf and possibly also eclipses of the
accretion disk. An orbital period of 3.92 hours is derived.
