Three months of DMSP satellite precipitating electron data are examined in order to look for the occurrence of distinct structured magnetospheric cusp regions. Of the 2000 cusp regions analyzed, only 2 percent show two distinct regions with a sharp demarcation. The results suggest that the frequency of occurrence of the events does not depend on the solar wind parameters, but does depend on the IMF orientation.
