We present a very deep optical observation of the outer regions of the edge-on galaxy NGC 7814 in the V and I bands. We show that its outer bulge shows departures from the r^1/4^ law and becomes redder at radii larger then 3'; this may indicate than the outer regions contain only very low-mass stars. The stellar disk presents a well-detected skewed warp. Our first attempt to determine the extinction by dust in the outer regions by measuring the statistical reddening of distant background galaxies is rather inconclusive, although it suggests a still large dust-to-gas ratio in the outskirts of the stellar disk.
