Analyzing the solar system abundances, we find two universal scaling relations concerning the p- and s-nuclei. These scalings indicate that the γ-process nucleosynthesis in supernova (SN) explosions is the most probable origin of the p-nuclei. In addition the scalings lead to new concepts: a universality of the γ-process and a new nuclear cosmochronometer. Calculations of the γ-process are carried out for typical core-collapse SN explosion models. These confirm the observed scalings.
