This paper reviews the current state of stellar coronal X- and UV observations, including preliminary observational results from the HEAO-1 and IUE satellites. In 1978 about two dozen of stellar soft X-ray sources were detected, including normal stars like the Sun, very active stars like RSCVn systems, and possibly a corona around an intermediately hot dwarf Sirius B. The observational results of various objects were examined and compared with X-ray luminosity predictions based on minimum-flux coronal models. The solar corona, the heating of the solar atmosphere, ultraviolet observations, and observed stellar X-ray sources were discussed, and it was concluded that the high-resolution X-ray observations of HEAO-2 should be able to distinguish whether Sirius A and/or B is the site of X-ray emission.
