Scientific paper

Relative sunspot numbers, solar flare activities (time, position and H-alpha importance), coronal hole boundaries (at least three long-lived series exist), and geomagnetic activities of 1978 are presented, as well as the magnitude and possible causation (by coronal holes or solar flares) of all the significant magnetic storms of the year, with two series of recurrent storms reviewed in detail. Particular attention is given to the flares (time, longitude and H-alpha importance), radio bursts (time, spectrum of peak flux density), and PCA events (time, maximum absorption) occurring in the three most active McMath plage regions.
