Nearly 2500 shock crossings by HEOS 1 and 2 and 5 IMP spacecraft, covering most of the northern and part of the southern bow shock surface were used to carry out a detailed study of the three-dimensional shape and location of the bow shock. Consideration is given to (1) the points where the shock surface intersects the coordinate axes, (2) the aberration of the shock surface, and (3) the magnetosheath thickness.
