ESA's 'Space Science Horizon 2000' report notes that the study of the sun remains the centrally important endeavor in such areas as MHD, plasma, atomic, and particle physics, as well as general relativity. JPL's Starprobe spacecraft is intended to approach 15 times deeper than Helios 2's record approach of the sun, and ESA's Ulysses craft will fly over the solar poles for the first three-dimensional overview of the sun. Ulysses will then proceed to Jupiter. The NASA/ESA Cassini mission has been proposed to arrive at Saturn in early 2002 for a wide-ranging 4-year orbital tour, and to release an entry probe into Titan's dense atmosphere while its orbiter concentrates on the radar mapping of Titan's surface.
