The solubility of noble gases in silicate liquids adheres to Henry's law, and is presently noted to be a strong function of composition and/or physical properties of the liquids. Solubility decreases through the sequence: andesite, leucite-basanite, tholeiite basalt, alkali-olivine basalt, and ugandite. Solubility favors the light gases; the temperature dependence of solubility is weak, and is nearly lost in experimental uncertainties. The effect of buoyancy and absorption into the liquid tends to eliminate bubbles, but the andesite samples retain large bubbles for much of the time of the experiment.
