In the last ten years, millimeter (mm) and submillimeter (submm) interferometers have started to unveil the first phases of planetary formation by revealing the physics and chemistry of circumstellar disks. In this talk, I will present recent results obtained with mm/submm arrays in order to show how our knowledge on circumstellar disks is rapidly evolving. I will then extrapolate these results in the context of the tremendous capabilities of the ALMA project which will provide invaluable insights in the planetary forming regions of disks.
