One thing George Series taught me well was the fascination of the complexity underlying simple systems, for instance the hydrogen atom. Like atomic H, the early Universe is a simple system. As is true for atomic H, there are also fascinating complexities folded into the simplicity of the Universe. In particular, small anisotropies in the relic heat of the Big Bang provide important clues both about the formation of structure in the Universe and about high energy physics.
