The existence of dark matter, both on the cosmological scale and locally in the Milky Way is reviewed. Models of cold dark matter (CDM) based on supergravity grand unification with R-partity invariance are examined. In these models, the CDM particles are the lightest neutralino, Z~1. The parameter space for SU(5) and SO(10) models with non-universal soft breaking is examined. It is seen that the minimum event rates can be increased or decreased by a factor of 10-100 (depending on the sign of the non-universal corrections) if 2mZ~1 is in the vicinity of the Z or Higgs mass.
