The quasi-linear relaxation of a one-dimensional distribution function is analyzed. The linear theory of waves propagating in an electron-positron plasma is reviewed in order to identify the types of waves which may participate in the acceleration of particles. The quasi-linear interaction of cyclotron waves with plasma particles is considered, and the matrix element for the induced scattering of waves by plasma particles is calculated. The role played by the latter process in elongating the high-energy tail of the particle distribution function is determined.
