Three cases of Pc3 observations by the GEOS-1 and GEOS-2 magnetometers are presented. The same events were recorded by a ground station. All cases indicate clearly that the onset of the oscillations occurs when the IMF direction turns close to the archimedean spiral; the oscillations disappear when the IMF direction turns along the west-east line. It is also found that the modulation of the amplitude of the oscillations depends on the value of the solar wind cone angle. The results can be interpreted in terms of generation of Pc3 waves by cyclotron instability upstream of the bow shock.
