Solar Cosmic Rays: Particle Propagation, Solar Cosmic Rays: Interplanetary Space

Scientific paper

Some recent results on the propagation of solar energetic particles in the interplanetary medium and their relation to the structure of magnetic field are reviewed. The elements of theoretical treatment include transport models, quasi-linear theory, and particle orbit simulation. Next, the determination of the mean free path is discussed, in particular its variation with rigidity and radial distance from the Sun. The dependence of pitch diffusion coefficient on pitch angle is analyzed.
