Detectors: Gravitational Radiation
Scientific paper
Ultrahigh-quality optics are indispensable for gravitational-wave detectors. Ultralow-loss mirrors are the key features which enable this high sensitivity. The author describes these ultrahigh-quality mirrors, which are mounted onto a TAMA300 gravitational-wave antenna which has just begun operation at the Mitaka campus of the National Astronomical Observatory; he also examines some optical measurement techniques, which are essential for the fabrication of these high-quality mirrors.
