An approximate method is proposed for eliminating the influence of instrument polarization on magnetographic measurements. Using this method, the magnetic vector can be accurately evaluated by deriving the longitudinal field component and by using this component to determine the effect of misalignment of the Zeeman line with the center of the exit slits.
