A baseline mission is proposed during which two spacecraft will be injected by the shuttle/four-stage interim upper stage combination into an interplanetary orbit towards Jupiter. Shortly after launch they will separate and travel near the ecliptic plane to Jupiter, after which they will go out of the ecliptic plane and pass, respectively, over the solar North and South Poles. The scientific payloads are partly identical (for magnetic fields, plasma charged particles, and X-rays) and partly individual, in particular coronagraphs and XUV heliographs.
