The high spectral resolution of TEXES provides a powerful tool with which to study gas emission lines from protoplanetary disks. With R=100,000, TEXES has the ability to make velocity resolved observations of emission line profiles providing information about the location of the emission within the disk. Previous observations of the Herbig Ae star, AB Aur, with TEXES on Gemini have shown the presence of pure rotational molecular hydrogen emission associated with the source. Emission in the S(1), S(2), and S(4) lines is observed, each having FWHM 10 km/s. We propose to obtain high signal-to-noise, velocity-resolved line profiles for the S(2) and S(4) lines in AB Aur in order to test models for where in the disk the emission originates.
