The article attempts to develop an effective application of the method of successive approximations to the cascade theory of electron-photon showers and to cosmic-ray physics, in particular to calculations of the characteristics of showers in the atmosphere at heights traversed by aircraft and balloons. Integral equations evaluated as sums of successive approximations, with the initial particle distribution serving as the zero-th approximation, are employed. More exact cross sections of the processes, and approximations of higher order, are obtained than in the Landau approximation.
