Numerical simulations are performed which demonstrate that tidal variations in O, O2, N2, and temperature, can produce asymmetries in D and E region electron concentrations at noon of the same order as those observed experimentally. Because the neutral temperatures and densities assumed in the model computations are realistic only in an average sense, however, the tidal oscillations are subject to day-to-day and seasonal variability and results from the present model must therefore be seen as diagnostic and not prognostic. It is concluded that simultaneous and coordinated measurements would have to be made to both provide and verify the input/output parameters of the model.
