The absorption of photons through bound-free transitions in ions is considered here to improve recent approximations proposed for radiative accelerations in stars. These approximations are used to calculate the diffusion processes in chemically peculiar stars. We propose, for metals, and approximate formula based on a photoionization cross-section close to the hydrogenic one. We use cross-sections for Ca IX and Ca X provide by the TOPbase data bank. We examine the general behavior of radiative acceleration due to photoionization. The contribution of this process to diffusion in Am stars is discussed.
