It is shown that within the context of the large numbers hypothesis (LNH) proposed by Dirac (1973), the number of particles in the universe varies as expected (in proportion to time squared) so that particle creation is unnecesary. In addition, it is shown that the rapid variation of the temperature of background radiation with time inherent in cosmologies based on the LNH has several unsatisfactory consequences. There is no time for nucleosynthesis to occur, leaving no explanation of the abundance of helium. For temperatures greater than 10 billion times the initial temperature, these cosmologies give less than one particle in the Universe. Finally, there is no explanation of the black-body spectrum of the background radiation within the context of these cosmologies.
