Introduction: A problem of synchronization between Northern and Southern Hemispher sunspot activities during solar cycles was considered. Methods: We have analyzed monthly sunspot area to establish common character of sunspot coupling and its daily data to trace different kinds of synchronization. Results: By means of Recurrence and Cross-Recurrence Plots we have established a quasiperiodic behavior of hemispheric synchronization. By using nonlinear coherence and pattern recognition tools we found that sunspots exhibit episodic and rather phase synchronization along a solar cycle. Long-term effects of memory persistence from self-similarity patterns of solar cycles were also discovered. Discussion: Jointly using of two nonlinear methods allows to reveal onsets and endings of non-stationary synchronization of sunspot coupling between solar hemispheres.
