Spectra of the most distant quasars at z~6.5 show the Gunn-Peterson trough caused by absorption by neutral hydrogen in the ISM. The most recent analysis of the WMAP dataset is consistent with reionization at z~11. These observations suggest that starburst galaxies or quasars with large amounts of escaping UV emission were present at z~7-12, but such a population is inconsistent with a straightforward extrapolation of the evolution of known galaxy populations at z~6. We used the IRS instrument on the Spitzer Space Telescope in a pilot study to try to detect the reionizing galaxy population via H-alpha emission in the mid-infrared. We discuss the results of this observation and prospects for future surveys of this nature.
