A 2D MHD model is used to study the interaction of shocks with a current sheet, for the case of basic problem parameters chosen to correspond to situations in the solar corona with low plasma beta and moderate shock strength. Large current densities are noted to be generated when the fast MHD shock becomes the intermediate MHD shock, at the current sheet; the peak values of the current density are 3-4 times larger than the undisturbed initial current sheet values.
