The Galileoscope telescope kits developed by NOAO and its partners for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 play a large role in a number of National Optical Astronomy Observatory educational programs. These programs include Project ASTRO, Chilean outreach programs, Hands-On Optics, Hands-On Optics Arizona, local outreach to Boys and Girls Club and regional outreach to the Tohono O’odham Nation. In each of these programs we have defined a role for the Galileoscope and its associated observing program. The Galileoscope not only plays an important role in observational astronomy outreach programs but also in optics education efforts. The Galileoscope program will be described in the context of each of these programs during the International Year of Astronomy and beyond. The International Year of Astronomy 2009 is partially funded from a grant from the National Science Foundation Astronomy Division. NOAO is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), Inc. under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.
