Definitive auroral observations of changes in the column abundance of N2(+)(A2Pi u, v prime = 1) ions relative to the column abundances of A2Pi u ions in vibrational levels 0 and 2 have been observed in conjunction with changes in auroral height indicators such as band rotational temperatures (N2 1P, N2/+/M), the red-to-blue ratio, and the intensity ratio N I 3F/N2(+)M(0, 0). These observations provide strong support for the hypothesis that the accidental resonance charge transfer between O(+)(2D)-N2(X1Sigma g +, v = 0) may provide a selective auroral source of N2(+)(A2Pi u, v prime = 1) ions.
