A unique network of geomagnetic observatories in the 75 deg E longitude sector extending from the equator to near the pole provided data revealing that at low latitudes the ionospheric current system undergoes a drastic change with season. During December solstices, the eastward current is drastically reduced and no reversal in the current direction is observed in middle latitudes. It is suggested that these abnormal seasonal changes could be caused by a complex modification of various tidal modes of atmospheric oscillation with season at these longitudes.
