An analysis is made of the motion of a system of two material points connected by a ponderable thread carrying direct current. Equations are obtained which describe the motion of the system in central gravitational and magnetic dipole fields; equilibrium configurations are determined. The forced oscillations of the system due to changes in the magnetic induction vector are analyzed using a linear formulation. The evolution of the orbit due to an Ampere force is investigated.
