F-region maximum electron density data from a chain of eleven ionosondes covering a narrow longitudinal band from 58 deg north to 65 deg south geographic latitude, on the American continent, were used to determine the influence of neutral tides upon electron density evolution as a function of time, season and latitude. Results suggest that the neutral tidal system exerts an appreciable influence on the electron density distribution. The mean thermospheric circulation, through the transport of neutral components, controls the seasonal variations of the electron density, while the neutral temperature tide influences the daily variations.
