The self-consistent problem of gravitationally interacting monopoles in the presence of a large-scale magnetic field is studied numerically and analytically. For a toroidal magnetic field geometry with a fixed gravitational potential, the authors study the characteristic oscillatory frequency and damping rates of the magnetic field. It is shown that even in the presence of monopole density gradients, there exists, for fixed magnetic field geometry, a large-scale mode of the system which oscillates, to zeroth order, at a suitably averaged monopole plasma frequency. It is demonstrated with simple dynamo models that it is not possible, in general, to use the survival of galactic magnetic fields to establish bounds on the magnetic monopole flux.
