Measurements are presented of some optical and magnetic features of a class II low latitude auroral event on the 25-26 May, 1967. The observations were made at the Norman Lockyer Observatory, Sidmouth (geographic co-ordinates 50°41'N, 3°13'W) where the total magnetic field depression was at least 730 [gamma] and visible auroral forms were seen in the magnetic Zenith. Photometric observations of [NI] 5200 Å were made throughout the event. Telluric current records showed oscillations exceeding 30 mV/km at 500 mHz during the auroral break-up and also much slower variations of some 120 sec period and more than 40 mV/km amplitude during the recovery phase.
