Recent observations of the distribution of atomic sodium have shown that the scale height on the topside of the sodium layer can be much smaller than the atmospheric scale height. These observations have been interpreted in terms of release of atomic sodium from dust particles in the upper atmosphere; it is suggested here that an alternate explanation may be obtained from consideration of ablation from meteors.
