In the work reported here a maximum mass of about ten solar masses has been found for neutron stars in the Yilmaz metric. The success of gap accretion models of neutron stars in x-ray binaries and a lack of observed signatures of black holes strongly suggests that the black hole candidates among the x-ray binaries may simply be massive neutron stars. If so, then either neutron physics or General Relativity must be modified to remove the three solar mass limit for neutron stars. The Yilmaz addition of a field stress-energy to the right member of the field equations of General Relativity eliminates singularities without affecting weak-field properties. The existence of a field Lagrangian permits quantization of the theory.
