The reactions of 47A MeV ^4He, ^12C, ^22Ne, ^40Ar and ^64Zn projectiles with a variety of target nuclei ranging from ^64Zn to ^232Th have been studied using the TAMU neutron ball together with a near 4π charged particle detector employing both ionization chamber-CsI telescopes and Si-CsI telescopes. In one series of measurements target-projectile combinations were chosen to produce, in central collisions, composite systems with masses near A=125 having excitation energies from 1 to 9 MeV/u. In another series, ^197Au targets were used to produce nuclei with A≈ 200-240 with excitation energies of 1 to 7 MeV/u in central collisions. A careful comparison of yield distributions, angular distributions, light particle multiplicities and energy spectra in the different collision systems is being made in an attempt to separate dynamical and statistical processes of particle and fragment production and to clarify the mechanisms of multifragment decay modes. The first results of this analysis will be presented.
