The large-scale magnetic field in the galactic disk is generated by a
dynamo process determined by differential rotation and helicity. The
turbulent diamagnetism resulting from the spacial inhomogeneity of the
turbulence of galactic matter is shown to inhibit large-scale field
generation and to change its behavior near the Galaxy surface.
