The field of very high energy gamma-ray astronomy studying gamma-rays in the energy range above several tenth of GeV has seen a dramatic breakthrough in the last year. For the first time is was possible to spatially resolve gamma-ray sources and to perform a sensitive scan of the inner part of our Milky Way revealing eight new sources. Progress has been achieved in the search for the accelerator of charged cosmic rays. This paper summmarizes the status of this rapidly developing field.
