New results are presented on the interpretation of IR spectra of Venus in the spectral range 270-1650/cm, obtained in 1983 by Venera-15. The temperature and the aerosol profiles which were obtained by self-consistent retrieval are used to analyze vertical profiles of SO2, its mixing ratio at 40-mb level, and the scale height. It is shown that, at low latitudes of Venus, the scale height of SO2 is 2-3 times less than the scale height of the cloud layer, whereas in the polar region, the scale height of SO2 is about 2-4 times greater.
