The main regularities of large-scale air mass motions in the lower thermosphere are analyzed on the basis of data obtained by the method D sub 2 on Heiss Island, in Obninsk, Volgograd and Molodezhnaya station (Antarctica). Investigations of the temporal wind variation character in the lower thermosphere during geomagnetic disturbances are discussed. Calculated results of vertical gradients of the horizontal wind by the statistical procedure for the meteor height determination are presented.
