Derivation of formulas for the gravity distribution on the Martian surface and at the Martian equator. The desired formulas are obtained by taking as the external level surface of Mars a triaxial ellipsoid (or ellipsoidal areoid, by analogy with the concept of an ellipsoidal geoid) which corresponds to the stable configuration of the fairly homogeneous iron core of Mars, and then expanding the gravitational potential of this ellipsoid in terms of Lame functions.
