It is shown that for a real scalar field in a Friedmann Universe, the distribution of particles generated form an initial vacuum is, at sufficiently short wavelengths, dominated by a thermal factor exp(-k/Θ). Allowing for a weak coupling between short and long wavelengths after the epoch of particle creation, one then anticipates an ultimate relaxation towards a thermal distribution at all wavelengths.
